HORSE PHOTOGRAPHS
Barely out of high school, I drove from New York to the Ledyard International Three Day Event north of Boston, which was a huge happening at the time - the top riders from Europe and the US were there, and they were even filming a movie on site. As we watched the first day's dressage on a rain soaked field, I spied two photographers who were covering the competition. Despite the weather, a light went on in my head: that's what I want to do. I spent the rest of the weekend splashing around the cross country course carrying a Nikkormat camera whose back was held closed with a band aid, trying to keep my soggy traveling companions from mutinying, and sold my first photo to a newspaper that I talked into covering the event. 40+ years later, I've covered World Cups and World Equestrian Games, photographed horses on 5 continents, and won the coveted Silver Camera award for best equestrian photo of the year. So far it's been an amazing journey!
